The Seetaler Alpen, the Seckauer Alpen, the Glein- and Stubalpe as well as the Wölzer and Rottenmanner Tauern form the beautiful,
mountainous setting for the Murtal. You can easily reach many of its peaks and huts from the 50plus Camping Park Fisching.
Some entry points are only a few minutes away by car.
Your trusty car will take you directly to the Winterleitensee lake. The wonderful backdrop of the Zirbitzkogel and
a sunny seat do the rest for your alpine happiness.
The starting point of the tour is the Winterleitenhütte. Instead of heading straight for the Zirbitzkogel, you make a short detour past the beautiful Winterleiten lakes to the Kreiskogel at 2306 m, which is not much lower. From there you enjoy a great panoramic hike over the ridge of the Seetaler Alps to the actual destination - the Zirbitzkogel. The way back leads via the Schreibersteig, with a view of the Lindersee, back to the Winterleitenhütte.
The starting point is the Alte Almhaus, accessible by car via Gaberl. The hiking trail starts flat up to the "Steinerne Miaz" statue of the Virgin Mary. Then the ascent to the Rappoldkogel via trail 505B. At the summit cross you have a wonderful distant view. Accompanied by a small feeling of hunger, the trail leads downhill to the Salzstiegelhaus - perfect for a rest. The way back is relatively flat via trail 505.
From the Waldheim Hut, the well-signposted hiking trail 321 leads past the "Maria in der Zirbe" and the "Türkenkreuz" to the Wildsee lake. From here you can enjoy an impressive panorama and take a first rest. Continue along hiking trail 321 to hiking trail 08. Cross the ridge of the Seetaler Alpen past the Fuchskogel to the Zirbitzkogel. At 2,396 m, this is the highest elevation in the Seetaler Alps. It lies south of the upper Murtal valley in Styria near the border with Carinthia. After a decent break at the Schutzhaus, we return to the Waldheimhütte via hiking trail 320.
Pack your provisions for the day right after breakfast and you're on your way. Here in the Murtal, nature is virtually always just around the corner.
